Have you ever been to Timor Leste? If so, have you ever tasted this special food? Pa’un bread is a typical bread from Timor Leste. This bread is commonly known as Bengali bread or pillow bread. Pa’un bread can be eaten alone directly or can be accompanied by using a sandwich. There are 2 kinds of Pa’un bread, such as in the form of a tire, the texture is a bit hard but crunchy. And the other one is soft-textured. Those of you who are curious can try it yourself at home. This time I will share a recipe or how to make Paung Bread.

4 cups star fruit bread flour
1 Cup star fruit water

2 teaspoons yeast
Sugar 2 tbsp
Oil (any oil works) 2 tbsp
2 tbsp dry milk
2 tsp salt

  • Mix the instant yeast, salt, and flour into the water. Knead the dough until it’s smooth so it doesn’t stick to your hands. Then let the dough rest for about 30 minutes so that it expands more.
  • When the dough has risen you can take it little by little to form a dough. Form the dough and place it on the baking sheet. So that the bread in the pan does not stick, sprinkle a little flour on it.
  • Arrange the dough in the pan. Then we let the dough rest for 20 minutes. The bread will expand 2 times its previous size.
  • After 20 minutes, put the dough into the traditional oven. The shape of the oven made of red brick. Preheat the oven using firewood.
  • It only takes 15 minutes to bake Pa’un bread.
